3 Steps to being more creative on your next project

Artists? Photographers Having trouble feeling creative? Here are 3 steps to help you come up with your next project.

Having trouble feeling creative?

Here are 3 steps to help you come up with your next project.

Step 1: Pick a medium.

What makes you happy that brings others joy? What do you like doing so much that you forget to eat and don’t realize you’ve been working on it for hours? What do you find people complimenting you on?

Not that this is something you’re doing for other people, but I value the joy of others for two reasons.

1) People are less judgemental about you than you are. They see your talents differently than you. They don’t compare you to others the way you compare yourself. They are the opposite of that negative inner voice.

2) Bringing joy to others can be a really powerful motivator to keep creating.

Step 2: Pick one or two elements that MUST be part of your creative project.

What makes high-quality project look and feel great? Consistency.

You could have a mediocre project, but it will speak to people when there is some sort of visible theme in your work. This could be a color scheme, a perspective, a topic you are passionate about, etc. This is about inspiring yourself in a visual way.

Step 3: Give yourself limits.

What? I thought I’m being creative. Why would I limit my art choices? Boundaries make you creative. Have you ever been low on food in the cupboard and come up with some brilliant recipe? Did you know ice cream cones were invented because they ran out of cups? Did you know there are musicians out there that created a niche because they didn’t have the right equipment?

Boundaries = creativity.

Take some time and think about these each step at a time. Let me know what you’re working on! Put your work on Instagram and #cozyproject to be featured.
