Pencil it in! Nature's Color Palette

Art projects you can do after work

Welcome to another Pencil it in! Each project is super easy to do, even if you’re tired after work. The point of this series is to play with art for a few minutes a day, even if you’re tired or annoyed.

This week is about finding colors in nature. Look for beautiful colors that you may not have noticed before.

Nature’s Color Palette

Time: 30 minutes (including observation time)
Supplies: A camera, mixed media or watercolor paper, watercolors, and an aqua brush.

Instructions:

  1. During your day or week, take or find a photo of 2-3 natural scenes with colors that appeal to you. This could be anything from a small detail to an entire landscape.

  2. On paper, use your watercolors or colored pencils to create a palette matching the colors you observed. Try to make your palettes 3-5 colors

  3. Name your palettes after what you saw or any feelings you feel.

This project helps you see more beauty in the small things. When you feel thankful and see beauty, you feel happier and more relaxed. Try to see this way more often.

Do you like the palettes you created? Use them in your art! Color schemes can create a unique style that helps you stand out as an artist.
