What do I think now?
Every time I see emails about a daily project, I make the same assumption.
“I’m not good at these things, and I shouldn’t try.”
I sort of did The 100 Day Project in 2019. On top of not being able to make something “good” each day, I hated the idea of putting it on Instagram. Seeing how good everyone was on a daily basis made me not want to make art at all.
To be honest, I had that feeling again when AI “art” became popular.
I could make a lot of my miniature photography ideas by typing a phrase into a computer. How unfulfilling!
Know what’s helped me now? Going for the wonky. Seeing “wonky” art has made me want to share my art, to encourage others to do it too. Artists like Terry Runyan have helped so much! This is some art I made after her classes:

I want things to look like they were drawn by hand.
I want it to make other people want to make art.
Looking at my art now, I actually like it! My #100dayproject was birdhouses.
I tried another daily project from Emily Mills in 2024, and I get it now. It’s not about making something good; it’s about making SOMETHING. Instead of trying one subject, her email prompts had a bunch of options, and it got me to draw silly things!

Keep making your stuff, and keep encouraging people! Maybe even try a daily project.
